Superhero Photography
Background
Does your child dream of being a Superhero? My boys certainly did - my eldest son Jake was a familiar sight on top of the brick letter box announcing to the world - "I'm Batman!" before jumping off from the dizzy heights to save the world while his younger brother Mitch followed him everywhere in his Superman outfit. Jake's love of superheroes hasn't wavered and at 24 he is begging me to create an adult version of our Superhero photos!
When Matt (MJC Creative Images) www.mjccreativeimages.com and I decided to develop the Superhero concept it was important to us that the final composite image looked like 'the real thing'. The lighting, backdrop, costume and digital enhancement all needed to be of a standard that replicated what you would see on a movie poster or advertisement for the next big Superhero movie and we are delighted by the results we have been able to achieve.
While we can photograph almost any age the sessions are really designed for children who are old enough to understand what a Superhero is, who love dressing up and being a Superhero and who can follow some instuction. We have found the most suitable age is from 5 years.
What happens at a Superhero Photo Session?
Prior to the session
- mum and dad with their children decide which Superhero they would like to be. Many superheroes have masks as part of their costume which means that the final composite image may well have your child's face covered. If you would like to see your child's face please choose an unmasked Superhero. We can also photograph typically masked characters with the mask being held by the child etc.
- we work with you and your child (Superhero) to develop a 'concept' that is unique to your child/children
- sourcing costumes - we have a few costumes in the studio however it is impossible to stock all of the Superhero characters in all of the sizes required so on most occasions families choose to source their own Superhero costume - after all the kids will get plenty of use out of them later!
- the success of the final composite image is heavily reliant on a QUALITY costume. Male superheroes costumes require padding for muscles which enables us to skim light across to create a three dimensional feel
- using props that are commensurate with your superhero character such as a sword, shield, web etc adds to the variety of images that we create and frees your child to act out their Superhero. Just take a look at young Jackson acting out Thor!
During the Session
- Some people can be a little apprehensive about what is going to happen during a studio session but there is no need to be concerned, our studio is very comfortable with lounge chairs, bathroom and full equipped kitchen. Feel free to help yourself to a cup of tea/coffee.
- Children arrive in their normal clothing and transform into their superhero at the studio
- Our aim is for your children to have fun - if they are having fun we will get heaps of photos to choose from for their composite image
- Safety is a priority and it is important that if you have other children attending the session that they are well supervised. We take all care to ensure the safety of you and your children however when we are shooting it is your responsibility to look after your children. If you need to bring along another adult to supervise then please make these arrangements
After the Session
- the photos taken during the session are uploaded and we select one image to be developed into a 'Composite' - that means the image is edited and placed into a scene that resembles a Movie Poster. Each creation will be unique and you won't know exactly what you will get until the final image is unveiled at your ordering session. We get so excited to see the final result because while we have discussed the 'concept' for the composite and had lengthy discussions with our editing team we don't know exactly what it will look like until it is complete.
- once the editors have finished working their 'magic' we get you back in the studio to view the final result. It is only then that you decide what it is that you would like to order.
- we have a wide variety of products available for purchase however the composite image is designed to be printed as a metallic wall art - we offer both custom framing or our extremely popular acrylic wall art (the metallic print is sandwiched between two pieces of acrylic and give a very sleek, modern feel with edge to edge printing)
