Alpine Butchery - Food Photography Assignment
As a rural photographer I've found it's important to be versatile and offer a range of photography services. While product photography isn't my main focus I jump at the opportunity to capture high quality imagery to showcase my clients products.
Back in June 2020, I was approached by Chris and Kristie of Alpine Butchery to photograph their meat products for their online shopping site being developed by Melissa from Youlissys.
You may recall that around this time we were all impacted by Covid restrictions and for a while photographers were unable to photograph weddings, portraits, babies - pretty much anything that involved people. Having the opportunity to photograph products in the studio was a welcome relief.
The Brief
A product shoot of this nature requires good communication between the web designer, photographer and client to ensure the final product meet their needs. This includes the style of photography, orientation of images, consistency, aesthetic and ensuring the product - in this case mainly raw meat items - is presented in an appealing way.
After a number of discussions, inspirational images sourced and test shots taken, we decided on a darker look and feel using textured boards, accompanying herbs, condiments and props, shooting from overhead (with the exception of a few items and hero banner shots) and directional lighting. We also used the same backdrops and boards for the same types of meat eg. lamb was photographed on a timber board whereas beef was photographed a back textured backdrop.
Behind the scenes
Alpine Butchery Website - the final product
We've taken some screen shots of Alpine Butchery's website to show one of the ways they have chosen to use our imagery.
**In addition to my images the website also contains some other photos of the pantry range, new products or those not available at the time of the shoot**
