Two Seasons At Craig's Hut
What is the best season to have your wedding photographs at Craig's Hut?
Well the short answer is any season. This year I've had the opportunity to photograph a snow wedding in the middle of winter and a Spring/Summer wedding and both were simply magical. There's just something about being on top of the world, surrounding by mountains and nature that just makes you stop, breathe and soak it all in. After my first flight I couldn't stop smiling - exhilarated by the experience, I couldn't wait to go through the photos. I can't image what Sarah and Steven were feeling - the excitement of having just been married and then landing at Craig's Hut in the snow with not another person around.
Flying back up to Craig's Hut on the cusp of summer with Jade and Leigh was a completely different, yet no less magical experience. I photographed them as they exited the helicopter and made their way towards the hut. As they approached the steps they embraced and the tears flowed. There had been many happy tears leading up to and during the wedding but their response to having just married the love of their life and being in such a magical place I will always remember.
There are so many photographic opportunities while up at Craig's Hut and for Jade and Leigh's wedding, in addition to capturing images around the Hut we also headed to a lesser photographed area amongst the snow gums.
The direction and intensity of light will vary with the seasons creating different opportunities for photography. We were fortunate on both days to have part cloud/part sun creating dramatic skies.
Love how the wide angle lens used in this image emphasises the dramatic sky.
And inside the hut creates its own opportunities.
Whatever the season I highly recommend having photos taken at or even having your wedding up at Craig's Hut. Dave the pilot from Alpine Helicopter is very accommodating and is one of the best photography assistants going around - lol.
